* thank fuck the ref only got to see the 2nd bit where Dawson brings him down in the box - we won't tell him though, eh!! 😉

The ref wasn't good yesterday. Got the penalty decision absolutely spot on.

Percy - nobody is blaming the officials for our inept performances. They are however blaming the officials for their inept performances

Can't keep blaming the officials for our continuing inept performances . We've come a long way in the last two seasons but at the moment we've hit a brick wall.
Could be the canny Scots way of identifying our shortcomings in the squad numbers or has Moyes become a shit manager again.
January should reveal if the board are going to back Moyes but remember it was Moyes who didn't want a striker but he'll certainly need some defenders.

Hit pause at 0:59 seconds and explain the left backs position on the pitch, ahead of the DM whilst the other 3 are where you'd expect them to be, without resorting to saying he doesn't know what he's doing.

Everything leads to everything else on a football pitch.

Look at Masuaku's position for the penalty goal. Why does Diop get sucked out.

Meerkat 11:48 Mon Dec 27, maybe my last paragraph was a bit OTT and of course I have no problem with people being a bit down and critical. But to predict the season is over, a slide down the table and straight out of Europe. How is that support?

I really have some trouble with all the negativity on Masuaku. I don't want to see him at LB, but I can see yesterday was not due to him. Masuaku generally covered the left okay, most attacks down the left side didn't get much joy and attacking players turned in towards the middle. All the goals came down the middle or right and I would put most blame on the defensive midfield. First goal Rice didn't close down and stop the pass from right to centre. Soucek was in the centre but too far from the player that received the ball and didn't do anything to stop the shot, goal. Second much discussed, they broke, passed the midfield down the middle no trouble Dawson was left to try and stop the break and his effort was terrible, sloppy and ended rightly or wrongly in a penalty. Third, On the break again, pass down the right. Soucek goes to deal with it, I don't see it was a free kick, but perhaps Soucek used an arm to slow the player down, anyway a free kick was given. Very good delivery into the middle of the box, Dawson was in front of their player, but couldn't reach it. It drops perfectly for the player behind Dawson, next player was Soucek, who I think should have been there blocking the header, but no block no pressure to put the player off and it's a goal.

Masuaku is disappointing as he does nothing very good, but he did a job and the left was not our problem.

There were loads of them further back ,
Tommy Taylor , Bill Green , John McDowell spring to mind .

They may not have made 100 appearances mind you .

As for Masuaku, have we ever had a worse player who's made more than 100 apps for us?

Christian Dailly
Matty Etherington

Although I admit, there isnt much to choose between all three

Eerie,

I'm going to hold my hands up and say I was wrong.

It's still not a penalty, but having just watched it again a few times, it's a sending off. Their striker would have been straight through.

In our position, that's a result, as no Dawson would absolutely compound the shit position we're in.

I have to hand it to a lot of you on here, you certainly show no bias towards your own team.

Eerie Descent 2:03 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
Absolute bollocks. If a foul was given outside the box, Dawson gets a red card, and we don't really want to see that. The lad stayed on his feet anyway, and once inside the box, was cleaned out by Dawson, whether he meant it or not. Absolute nailed on penalty, I would have been fuming if it was us and wasn't given, as would you lot.

Same as Dawson should have won us a penalty against Burnley, but just because they got that one wrong, doesn't mean it wasn't a pen yesterday.

How many times do here the commentator then ex referee in the studio say ' ahh, the initial contact was made outside the box, no penalty ,

Plus about 80 minutes of time wasting which was only punished in injury time. The ref was bent because there is no way you could be that bad

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
Dawson has deliberately smashed into the player, so that the initial contact is outside the box (no penalty) and so that he isn't close enough to the box to be deemed last man ( no sending off)

Not a penalty. Yes, in real time if it was for us you'd be screaming penalty, but then you'd look at the incident back and think 'Oh, actually, the initial contact was outside box'

Norman 1:57 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
The ref didn't call he or linesman didn't give it. If it was a foul was miles outside the box so how was it a pen. Shocking decision

Eerie Descent 1:50 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
We've had some awful decisions against us recently, but yesterday wasn't one of them. Thought the ref called it 100% right, had it been up the other end and it wasn't given, they'd have been a meltdown on here.

Can't believe you still bang about var and penalty. Nothing wrong with either and we ost because of Moyes. And that's a fact!

He made us better, removed deadmeat and made us work harder.
But he keep making the same foolish mistakes time after time.
Tactical idiot

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
I'm very interested to see what's Moyes' plan for Soucek. This season we've tried to play better football so Rice got the license to drive the ball forward constantly and it worked imo. However Soucek proved he's not good enough at protecting the back 4 so I'm not really sure how he contributes to the team nowadays. Sure you can switch the roles between him and Dec again and have him in the box but is a couple of goals from open play a season worth sacrificing Rice's ball carrying abilities?

master 1:33 Mon Dec 27
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Southampton - Official Match Thread
And yet when we were struggling first half, with Southampton clearly targeting literally every attack to Masuaku side, did Moyes (or to a lesser extent the captain) consider such a tactical break in play to organise a change and tell the team how to combat their tactics?

Saw him shout a few times 60 yards across the pitch. Thus letting their manager know exactly what was being changed.

Then saw him wait 45 mins before any changes, when it was obvious that something needed changing after only 15.
